PROENZA SCHOULER
An exhibition curated by Aparterre for MBBFW
In the former Royal Palace of Bucharest, fashion became not just a show, but an experience. The Proenza Schouler exhibition during Mercedes Benz Bucharest Fashion Week invited the viewer on a journey of emotional concepts and garment memories: ten iconic looks, each carrying an essential part of the house DNA.
The ten looks selected set the stage for a chronology of the Proenza Schouler spirit. It was not about isolated visual sequences, but rather a crossroad of the idea of shape, going through discreet sculptural structures to the calculated delicacy of every detail.
Each look was a key image, a frozen time frame at the edge of critical observation and subtle emotion.
The exhibit also carried a cultural weight during a creative transitional period for the brand. After stepping down as creative directors of their name-sake brand to take over the creative helm at Loewe, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have chosen Rachel Scott, founder and designer of Diotima, to take over the role of creative director at Proenza Schouler.
In the Marble Hall of the former Royal Palace, where architectural memory meets fashion impulse, these ten looks captured a liturgical resonance. Fashion was not just exhibited, but it interpreted the space; the looks weren’t meant to be just viewed, but also read. A dress became an idea, a jacket becomes an echo, an evening look becomes a whisper.
This experience was not just a simple retrospective, but a lucid run-through of aesthetic reference points that mark both the brand’s origins, as well as the heralding of a new era under the signature of Rachel Scott. Ten frames. Ten voices. A continuum where the past and the future resonated in the meaningful silence of fashion.
For a few hours in Bucharest, Proenza Schouler was meant not to be seen. It was meant to be read.
